Join us for the Annual Creative Art Competition!

“Open Theme” – let our students express themselves freely!

Create and submit your artwork or short film to showcase your unique perspectives and talents.

Winners will be honored at our exciting award ceremony.

Celebrate creativity and cultural expression with us!

Deadline: Friday, 24 October 2025. Artworks must be received by close of business at 12A Seaview St. Dulwich Hill, NSW 2203 (Federation's office)

Note: There is an access code required to finalise your online registration request. Please ensure you have this code ready to complete the process.

Drawing Competition Submission:

Size of Artwork: A3 white paper (no other sizes or materials will be accepted).
Art Medium: Pencils, crayons, pastels, textas, or paint (no collage materials).
Labeling: On the back of the artwork, in light pencil, please write:

Student’s name
Contact number
Email
Age
Category (A: 5-8 years, B: 9-12 years, C: 13-18 years)
Language
Name of community language school

Short Film Competition Submission:

Length of Film: 3 minutes maximum.
Language: The film should be in the language of your school/community with English subtitles.
Cloud Storage: We encourage you to use any popular cloud storage service (e.g., Google Drive, Dropbox) to share the short film link.
Submission: Include the short film link in the online registration form.

Age Groups for Artwork Competition

Category A: 5 to 8 years old
Category B: 9 to 12 years old
Category C: 13 to 18 years old

Prizes:

Drawing Competition:

First Prize: $100 for each category
Second Prize: $75 for each category
Third Prize: $50 for each category
Highly Commended Prizes: $20 each for 2 participants in each category

Short Film Competition:

First Prize: $300
Second Prize: $200
Third Prize: $100

Awards Ceremony

Prize winners for both the artwork and short film competitions will be announced and presented at the Federation’s Gala Dinner, Saturday 22 November 2025.

1. Organiser The NSW Federation of Community Language Schools Inc is organising a student drawing and short film competition to celebrate our community and linguistic diversity.

2. Age Groups for Artwork Competition

Category A: 5 to 8 years old
Category B: 9 to 12 years old
Category C: 13 to 18 years old

3. Drawing Competition Details

Size of Artwork: A3 white paper. No other sizes or materials will be accepted.

Submission Deadline: All artworks must be received at the Federation by the due date stated.
Ownership: All artworks will remain the property of the Federation.

4. Short Film Competition Details

Length of Film: 3 minutes maximum.
Language: The film should be in the language of your school/community with English subtitles.
Ownership: All submitted short films will remain the property of the NSWFCLS and may be used when needed by the NSWFCLS Inc to promote the community languages school sector.
Submission Deadline: All short films must be received at the Federation by the due date stated.

5. Important Notes for Drawing Competition

There should be no writing or wording on the front of the artwork.
On the back of the artwork, in light pencil, please write:
1. Student’s name
2. Contact number
3. Email
4. Age
5. Category
6. Language
7. Name of community language school
No flags are to be included in the artwork.
No current or past political person/s are to be drawn. No material that could be considered offensive.
Artworks that do not follow the criteria will be ineligible.

6. Judging Criteria for Drawing Competition

Creativity: Level of thinking and how it relates to the topic.
Presentation: Clarity of the drawing.
Skills: Imagination, utilization of colours, relevance, and originality of the artwork.

7. Judging Criteria for Short Film Competition

Quality of Language and Subtitles: Proper use of language and accurate subtitles.
Editing: Smooth and professional editing of the film.
Sound: Clear and appropriate use of sound.
Originality: Creativity and uniqueness of the film.
Costumes/Setting: Effective use of costumes and setting to enhance the story.
Special Effects: Quality and relevance of special effects used.

8. Judging Process All judging is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.

9. Awards Ceremony Prize winners for both the artwork and short film competitions will be announced at the Federation’s Gala Dinner.
